Emmanuel Macron urges EU to give Britain 'breathing space' over Brexit

French President Emmanuel Macron has called on the EU to give Britain "breathing space" over Brexit.

Macron said that he was "not sure" if the UK would be able to leave the EU by the end of October, and that the EU should be "patient" with Britain.

Macron's comments came after a meeting with Michel Barnier, the EU's chief Brexit negotiator.

Barnier said that the EU was "ready to work" with the UK, but that there was "still a lot of work to do" before a deal could be reached.

The UK is due to leave the EU on October 31, but there is still no agreement on the terms of its departure.

The UK government has said that it wants to leave the EU with a deal, but it is also prepared to leave without a deal.

The EU has said that it wants to avoid a no-deal Brexit, but it is also prepared to do so if necessary.

The negotiations between the UK and the EU are ongoing, and it is unclear when or if a deal will be reached.
